Friday News - Jan. 12

We had a good full week back to school!

In Math we are continuing to work on our multiplication (and division) facts--using them to help us solve story problems. It is important for all 3rd graders to have these basic multiplication facts memorized. Keep practicing at home with flashcards or games!

In Reading we talked about how good readers ask questions.

In Writing we started our unit on Informational writing! The students picked a topic that interested them and that they knew quite a bit about. We have ideas such as writing about basketball, king cobras, swimming, whale sharks, cars, soccer, Albert Einstein, and so much more! I'm excited to see these writings turn into mini informational books.

In Science we looked at how animals have certain adaptations to help them survive in their environments --- whether it be a pelican's beak to help it catch fish, or a fish blending in with surrounding coral, or a porcupine using its quills for protection! Animals inherit certain physical traits and they also learn certain behaviors from their parents as they grow; all in order to survive and thrive.
