Friday News - Dec. 1

Happy December 1st!!

Back in my hometown of Michigan (a northern state in the US) there is already beautiful snow on the ground. Call me crazy but sometimes I miss it. But here in Okinawa we will just have to welcome the rainy "cool" days.

Progress reports went out today. Parents, please take a look at them & be an encouragement to your student to continue to work hard! As always, email me if you have any questions or concerns.

Here are a few things we've been learning this week in 3.1....

In Math we finished up ch. 6 and took a test today. We are working on memorizing our multiplication facts & this week we learned a new game, Multiplication Squares! The kids really loved it and it works on multiplying, with a little competition thrown in there :)

In Reading we have been reviewing the strategies we've learned so far: retelling a story, visualization, making predictions and finding interesting words (expanding our vocabulary)

In Bible we've been talking about Jacob (Issac and Rebekah's son) -- we looked at how he tricked his brother, Esau; how he got tricked by his uncle Laban & married Leah and Rachel; how God blessed him with 12 sons; and how he wrestled with God and was reunited with his family. Throughout Jacob's life God was always with him & continued to bless him. Jacob put his faith and trust in God and the plan he had for his life.

In Science we began our unit on animals! We learned that animals can be classified (sorted/grouped) into vertebrate -- animals with a backbone -- and invertebrates -- animals with no backbone.

A look at next week...
