Friday News - Dec. 7

Happy Friday!

This week in 3.1...

This week we participated in the HOUR of CODE! The students did an hour of coding and were amazing! They can continue to do coding at home too, here's the link --

A look at next week....

Spelling words: Christmas Theme!
Spelling test will be on Thursday (12/13)

Bible Memory Verse:

Luke 2:10-11
But the angel said to them. "Do not be afraid.
I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people.
Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you.
He is the Messiah, the Lord."

'Tis the season...
The story of Christmas is all about celebrating the birthday of Jesus, our Savior! What the kids sang about at the Christmas Program is all true. How God sent his only Son to earth, as a baby boy. Who then grew up & died for our sins. In class we read all of these stories straight from the Bible, but sometimes it is nice to watch a video too -- to help us understand the stories a little better. Here is a video on the story of Christmas!

Friday (12/14): The last day of class before Christmas break. That day will be a 1/2 day of school (12:30 dismissal). We will a class Christmas Party!! There will be no lunch served so I am asking for parent volunteers to bring in food for a potluck! Mrs. Rebecca Sneller sent an email to all of you with a link to the perfectpotluck online sign-up, here it is again:
If you are able to, please sign-up to bring in something for that lunch potluck / party! And please join us at 11:00 am!

**Sometimes, students provide a tiny gift for their classmates, you don’t have to do it at all, but if you would like to, please make sure it’s a little gift and one for every student in the class. (We have 21 students). But again, it is not necessary, just something fun some kids like to do :)

**Questions? Please contact me. Hope to see you next Friday!

Have a joyful weekend!

Today is the first day of December! Wow! The holiday season is upon us.

Back in my hometown of Michigan (a northern state in the US) there is already beautiful snow on the ground. Call me crazy but sometimes I miss it. But here in Okinawa we will just have to welcome the rainy "cool" days.
Keep encouraging your student to work hard these last 2 weeks of school before Christmas break!
*Please let me know if you and your family are leaving school early (before the 14th) for family trips this break.

Have a splendid weekend!

Next Friday (12/07): There is a permission slip in the Friday Folders. Upper Elementary (3rd,4th,5th) are going to attend the secondary Christmas program at the Yomitan Cultural Center. This is a wonderful opportunity to watch the older students perform their Christmas program. We leave school at 12:30 and will be back at 2 pm.
*Please sign & return the permission slip next week.

Friday (12/14): The last day of class before Christmas break. That day will be a 1/2 day of school (12:30 dismissal). We will also have our class Christmas party! (more details to come)

Give Thanks Always

What a wonderful 2 days full of thankfulness, reading, writing, Thanksgiving stories, math and PIE!

Thank you so much for all those who brought a pie for our pie day today, the kids really enjoyed it...probably not as much as I did :) It was very delicious. And thank you to the moms who came to school to help cut and pass out pie too!

This week in 3.1...
We made a "thankful tree" -- writing some of the things we are thankful for on leaves

Enjoy this time giving thanks and spending time together as a family!

Friday News - Nov. 16

This week in 3.1:

In Reading we worked on the reading strategy of ASKING QUESTIONS!

In Writing we finished up our personal narratives and had some time to share our stories with partners and read them aloud to the whole class.

In Math we are wrapping our chapter on understanding multiplication (chapter 4). We will take the chapter test Monday
We also created an "Array City" (see pictures below) --- creating buildings using arrays to make the windows. Our students are so creative, they even made a 3-D building!!

A look at next week....

NO spelling words and NO Bible memory verse this week.

PIE Day:
Thank you to the parents who have volunteered to bring a pie next Tuesday (11/20). If we could get a variety of pies, that would be awesome. What I mean is, that we don't want all apple pie or all pumpkin. A few different kinds would be good! Also, if any parents could stop by to help cut and serve pie please let me or Rebecca Sneller know.
Here is the schedule of Tuesday afternoon:

Holiday Market:
Come out tomorrow to the Holiday Market!

PIE Day:
This is one of my favorite events during the school year! (No joke, I honestly love PIE day!) I sent home an information sheet today in Friday Folders. If you are willing and able to bring a pie / send in a pie with your child, that would be awesome! We will enjoy some pie and celebrate in class around 1:05 pm until 1:40 pm.
Also, Mrs. Rebecca Sneller will send out an email with information as well. Please let her or myself know if you can help volunteer during this time on November 20th (to help cut and serve pieces of pie). You are also all welcome to come to school and enjoy pie with us!
